The dream started with a desire to hold the soil on a mountain whose base is red lava rock and basalt. With soil depths of 0 ? 5 feet, we knew we had to plant something with a deep tap root that would reach into the fissures of the rock to hold it. The idea for grapes evolved and the search for a consultant to direct us was launched.

180 degrees of southern exposure to the coast of Malibu along with a sheltered canyon from which the seasonal Trancas creek arises and the gentle coastal fog and clouds creep up in the mornings and evenings gave us a unique and precious microclimate with a terroir which nourished our robust red grapes. Our Syrah Noir and Syrah 877 clones along with our Cabernet Sauvignon varietals are noted for their rich color, bouquet and feel on the tongue. We used our grapes to make our Bodegas Gomez de Malibu wines and also sold them to home winemakers.
